Three Simple Tips To Quiet Your Mind

In today’s society, If you are not overachieving and extremely busy, you are an exception and not the norm. Though we are all aware and guilty of this; we continue to overextend, overachieve, and over stress ourselves to the point of breaking. Little do we realize that, by doing so we are hurting our body and mind.

Below are three simple tips that helps you to quiet your mind and enter a state of relaxation.

Practice the Art of Gratitude

Things that don’t go our way – circumstances like spilling our coffee, locking our keys in the car, forgetting our lunch – drags us into extreme negativity. This disappoints us, makes us feel discontent and mostly this state of mind dictates our whole day. In such situations, rather than focusing on the things that make you disappointed or discontent, make a habit of focusing on things you can be grateful for in your life. Doing so will quickly shift your state of mind to a happy and content one. You can feel it immediately.

When something nice happens, we tend to smile for a moment. On the contrary, when something goes wrong, we get upset and disappointed. In those moments, in order to pull ourselves up from the discomfort, we need to focus on what we are grateful for in our lives. There may be people, places or even things that make you grateful for. Keeping the focus on gratitude always gives your mind something to smile about. This will help you to stay active, healthy and calm.

Spend Sometime Doing Nothing

Everyone is busy now and we all set our schedules to overflowing in such a way that we are unable to find some time solely for ourselves. Take a look back at your schedule and find out the things which you can delete and delegate from the list. Spend this time doing nothing and simply sit focusing your attention on breathing which is the primary step in all type of meditation practices. This will certainly recharge you by quieting your mind. Since the health of your body is closely related to your state of mind, it is also good for your overall wellness.

Be in The Present Moment

“Being in the present moment” called mindfulness is now a motto and if you really take the time to learn what it means, you will realize that it is one of the best tools to quiet your mind. It means that you should focus on the exact moment you are doing it, i.e, you should focus on the moment at hand and not on a past event or a moment ahead from now. This is a well-known techniques that comes from the Buddhist tradition for attaining peace of mind. Now clinical studies confirm its effectiveness in reducing mind related issues like stress, anxiety and depression and improving productivity.

The best tip for quieting your mind is to put that on your schedule. Put it in with a big red pen on your calendar, text yourself a reminder, and place it on your list of things-to-do list.
